How The Split Began
The Split’s story began as a passage through the mangroves. Local accounts describe fishermen digging a narrow channel for their boats. Hurricane Hattie widened it in 1961, helping shape the waterway that separates Caye Caulker’s northern and southern sections today.

Over time, this practical passage became a place to swim, gather, and enjoy the island. Its story reflects Caye Caulker itself: shaped by nature and by the resourcefulness of its people.

Lazy Lizard at The Split
For more than 25 years, Lazy Lizard has welcomed guests beside The Split. What began as a waterfront bar and grill has become part of the experience of visiting Caye Caulker.

Today, people often say “Lazy Lizard” and “The Split” in the same breath. Together, they offer a simple invitation: pull up a chair, order something good, and stay awhile.
